Pink Floyd, one of rock and roll's classic acts has announced they will reunite for next month's Live 8 concert in London. The band will have its 1970s lineup featuring bassist/frontman Roger Waters, guitarist David Gilmour, keyboardist Richard Wright and drummer Nick Mason. Floyd has not played together on stage in more than two decades. The band last played together with this lineup in 1981.
'Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context,' Gilmour told 'Rolling Stone,' 'and if reforming for this concert will help focus attention then it's going to be worthwhile.'
Pink Floyd is best known for it's best selling album 'Dark Side of the Moon' and the album and film, 'The Wall'
David Gilmour released a statement on the group's website saying, 'Like most people I want to do everything I can to persuade the G-8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world. It's crazy that America gives such a paltry percentage of its GNP to the starving nations,' he said.
The group fractured in the early 80s and Waters later sued the other members of the group for continuing to use the name Pink Floyd. It appears the differences between the band are behind them, at least for now.
