Right now, Kenny Rogers' 20 game suspension seems like the least of the Texas Rangers pitcher’s problems. Today, Rogers turned himself in to police in Arlington, Texas on assault charges stemming from a June 29 incident in which Rogers allegedly shoved two cameramen when the Rangers were visiting Anaheim to play the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. One of the cameramen, Larry Rodriguez, was hospitalized after the incident in which Rogers tore his camera out of his hand.
Rogers has been charged with misdemeanor assault charges and could face a maximum of one year in jail plus up to a $4,000 fine if convicted.
For now, Rogers is free on $1,500 bond. Fox Sports, the company that employs the two cameramen has announced it does not wish to press charges against the veteran pitcher.
The commissioner's office is expected to rule later this week on Rogers' appeal of his 20 game suspension and $50,000 fine for the same incident. While the appeal is pending, Rogers has continued to pitch including making an appearance in the All-Star game last Tuesday.
Rogers is 11-4 this year with a 2.54 ERA in 18 starts. He issued an apology for his behavior at a press conference prior to the All-Star game last week.
