A series of rocket attacks by Palestinian militants into Israel resulted in the death of an Israeli woman according to medical officials. The attack took place in the town of Nativ HaAsara, just north of the Gaza Strip.
Four rockets were fired by the militants. The woman who was killed was a civilian in her 20s. Another civilian was lightly wounded according to Israeli medical officials.
Four additional rockets were fired by militants at the Israeli town of Nahal Oz and mortar shells were also fired at the settlement of Netzarim in central Gaza.
An Israeli official placed the blame for the attacks on the Palestinian Authority's refusal to confront and disarm militant groups who are dedicated to destroying Israel and are against making peace with the Jewish state.
'This is directly due to its inaction and total refusal to fight terror,' the official told CNN. 'Israel will take the necessary steps to fight terror if the Palestinian Authority does not.'
There is no indication that the continued acts of terrorism by militant groups will disrupt the planned Gaza withdrawal. Israel has controlled the Gaza Strip since winning it in the Six Day War in 1967. Between 1948-1967, Gaza was occupied by Egypt.
There is little doubt that Israel will step up actions against militants in the wake of these continued attacks. No group has officially claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks.
