Martha Stewart only has one more month to go of her five-month house arrest, but according to an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, the experience has been “hideous.” The 63-year-old domestic diva also believes that her punishment was meant to “scare other people,” and make her an example to others.
Stewart, who says her prison nickname was M. Diddy, still has not gotten used to the electronic monitoring ankle bracelet that she is required to wear at all times. Claiming that it irritates her skin, she says that she has figured out how to remove it. Although she does not claim to have done so, she says that she had no problem finding instructions for removing the device online. ''It's on the Internet,” she says. “I looked it up.''
Stewart, who served five months in a West Virginia federal prison prior to her release in March, is working on two upcoming television shows. Her new daytime talk show, Martha, will kick off in the fall, and she will also have her own Apprentice-style reality show. In the meantime, a federal appeals court continues to consider her request to overturn her conviction.
Stewart’s time in confinement at her Bedford home has not been wasted. She has been working on remodeling the estate, possibly to prepare it for sale once her sentence is concluded.
