'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' star Angelina Jolie has adopted a second child, a baby girl from Ethiopia who was orphaned by AIDS. Jolie already has an adopted son, three-year-old Maddox, who is from Cambodia.
Hadosh Halefom, the head of Ethiopia's state-run adoption agency announced to the Associated Press that the adoption was official. 'The paperwork has gone through. Miss Angelina's request was accepted last week,' Halefom said.
According to a posting on 'People' magazine's Web site, the child's name is Zahara Marley Jolie and she is less than one-year-old. Jolie is quoted as saying that she and Maddox are 'very happy to have a new addition to our family.' At this time, Jolie would not release specific information about the child's age, height, weight or general health.
Halefom explained that Jolie met all of the criteria to adopt an Ethiopian child. 'The two most important are economic capabilities and check with the police. Although she is a film star, she still has to meet the same requirements as everybody else.'
Jolie, 30, adopted as a single mother according to 'People.' She has been divorced twice. Tabloids have recently linked her romantically to 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' co-star Brad Pitt. Jolie has denied having a romantic relationship with Pitt who is in the process of a divorce from 'Friends' star Jennifer Anniston.
Right now, there is nothing but joy for Jolie. Earlier this year, she told reporters, 'My son is in love with Africa, so he has been asking for an African brother or sister.'
