BRICK is an American detective story set in a stylized high school world. Taking its cue from the novels of Dashiell Hammett, it follows a smart, thick-skinned protagonist on a single-minded mission: to find out the who and why of his ex-girlfriend’s murder.

Brendan Frye (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) has made a point of avoiding the social circles at his high school. His only companion in solitude is his girlfriend Emily (Emilie DeRavin), but she eventually grows tired of “heckling life with him” and leaves him to navigate the social scene. Three months later, Brendan receives a dire phone call from Emily. She’s in some sort of trouble and needs his help. The next morning he finds her dead. With a single-minded purpose, Brendan pushes into the stratified society of the high school like a fist through a honeycomb, looking for answers. From the pot-skulled reef worm Dode (Noah Segan) to the rich queen of the upper crust, Laura Dannon (Nora Zehetner), from the sexed up drama vamp Kara (Meagan Good) to the mysterious muscle headed lug named Tugger (Noah Fleiss), Brendan doggedly crashes everyone’s party in pursuit of his goal. Eventually, all roads lead to the center of the town’s crime world, and to an enigmatic figure named The Pin (Lukas Haas).

As the pressures and revelations mount Brendan plays all sides against each other, until things explode in a violent conclusion that ultimately reveals the truth about the girl he loved.
