James Griffin, a co-founder of the 70s soft rock group Bread, died Tuesday at his home in Tennessee. He was 61-years-old. Griffin had been battling lung cancer.
In 1971, Griffin co-wrote the Academy Award winning song 'For All We Know' which was performed by the Carpenters. It was featured in the movie 'Lovers and Other Strangers'
Griffin co-founded Bread in 1968 along with David Gates. The group had a number one hit in 1970 with 'Make It With You.' Griffin also sang harmony on hit songs like 'Everything I Own,' 'If' and 'Baby I'm-a-Want You.'
Griffin left Bread in 1973 after a disagreement with Gates but returned to the group three years later. A lawsuit about the use of the band's name continued on until 1984.
