Ashlee Simpson Gets Cold Reception at Miami's Orange Bowl

Ashlee Simpson's string of debacles was further extended this week as she was booed loudly during halftime at Tuesday night's Orange Bowl. Simpson, who was harshly criticized after being caught lip synching on Saturday Night Live in October, was a headline performer during the halftime show. But when she took to the field to sing her latest single, 'La La,' the crowd began booing. Apparently, her microphone was not working and the crowd, already primed by the intensity of the game, cut her no slack.

The booing continued throughout her song and became louder at the end. The camera cut away from Simpson's face to spare her further embarrassment.

Kelly Clarkson, who opened the show with 'Since You've Been Gone,' also had a microphone malfunction, but recovered somewhat before the end of her song after having been given another mic. Even Trace Adkins, who also appeared in the show, had similar problems. However, neither Clarkson nor Adkins were booed. Singer JoJo fared better when she sang the 'The Star Spangled Banner' a cappella before the start of the game.

Simpson blamed the SNL fiasco on acid reflux disease. At the time, she figured people would forget the incident. She wrote on her website, 'People always say things that are hurtful, and I encourage my fans to do what I do and not read what people are saying on the Internet . . . In a couple of days everyone's attention will be on someone else.'

But things haven't gotten better for Simpson. Her single 'La La' is not catching on and and in December she was booed by an audience of her peers when she performed on the Billboard Music Award show.

She's not giving up quite yet, however. On February 18th, she begins a tour to promote her latests CD, Autobiography.

This tour will certainly prove whether or not her fans will forgive her.
