Big Ben Named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was awarded the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award today by the Associated Press. Roethlisberger, who has yet to lose a start with the Steelers, was a unanimous choice, garnering all 48 votes.

Last year, wide receiver Anquan Boldin of the Arizona Cardinals was also a uninimous selection.

Typically, Roethlisberger spread credit around to his teammates. 'I think it is just a comfort level every week, learning and practicing, getting on the same page as these guys,' Roethlisberger said. 'I think that has really helped by being out there in practice and working with these guys, the receivers, the linemen, the running backs, and just getting familiar with each other has really helped our success and our progress.'

'Big Ben' went 13-0 as a starter for Pittsburgh. He took over for the injured Tommy Maddox during week 2 of the regular season and never looked back.

'We've got mostly the same guys, it's Ben that has made a big difference,' linebacker Joey Porter said. 'Everybody else has been here. Duce and Ben are the biggest two additions we had. Nobody knew he could play at this level this early.'

Roethlisberger finished the season with 196 completions in 295 attempts for 2,621 yards. He threw 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for a quarterback rating of 98.1--fifth best in the league.

The 15-1 Steelers enjoy a bye this weekend before facing their first playoff opponent in the race for the Super Bowl.
