Week-End box-office: Fockers on Top

On its second week-end of release, powerhouse comedy ‘Meet The Fockers’ has made, in only one week-end, almost as much as ‘Blade: Trinity’ in its entire run. Need I say more?

Ben Stiller and his folks put another impressive $42M for a $163M total take, and a top spot over the New Year break. But Ben and his fans won’t be the only one to smile! New Year’s week-end is a welcomed kind of fluke for studio execs, and theatre owners. It’s the one week-end where almost all movies GAIN in attendance, even the old ones.

For example, Nic Cage’s ‘National Treasure’ dug an additional $7m, which is about 77% up from it’s latest faring. Mr Incredible pumped up 65%, with $4M more to give Mr Eisner. Even ‘Fat Albert’ managed to gain, with $10M worth 7%.

For those wondering, ‘Blade Trinity’ sucked a meagre 13th, with a $48M total.

Here, in a nutshell, is the first ’05 draw.

1. MEET THE FOCKERS $42,834,000 $163,431,000
