Invasion of the Blogs!!

They're here!! Blogs are growing by leaps and bounds and invading the American landscape. A recent survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project says that 27 percent of Americans using the internet are reading blogs.

Ironically enough, while blogs are gaining in popularity, 62 percent of internet users in the U.S. are not exactly sure what a blog is.

So, Americans are now able to get their news from different sources including a first hand take on the news from the 'average American.' But while blogs may have a strong editorial content, it remains to be seen if they are accurate in their sources and information. They lack the safeguards that most news organizations have.

As of now, seven percent of all American internet users have written blogs. More of them are male rather than female (57 percent male) and most of them have been on the internet for more than six years.

Blogs played an interesting role in the 2004 election. It remains to be seen what the future holds for blogs, but you can be certain it will evolve into a new part of the American news landscape.
