A Florida judge has ordered a homeless man accused of stalking former tennis player Anna Kournikova to stay at least 1,000 feet away from her if he gets out of jail.
40-year-old William Lepeska is presently being held in a Miami area psychiatric unit on $250,000 bail. He is facing charges that include resisting arrest, battery on police officers and burglary as well as stalking, indecent exposure and criminal mischief.
Lepeska allegedly swam naked in Biscayne Bay in an attempt to get to Kournikova's home. He ended up in the wrong house and was arrested by police on the deck of Anna's neighbor's pool. He was allegedly calling out 'Anna! Save me!' as police took him into custody.
According to court papers filed by Kournikova, Lepeska sent her a letter that indicated if we 'were lovers we would have no need for other people, food or water.'
At a pretrial hearing, the former tennis player told Judge Diane Ward, 'I was absolutely shocked and fearful, and I was very much concerned for my safety. It was very frightening and scary just knowing there is someone out there who’s obsessive.'
She also indicated that as a result of this incident, she hired a body guard for the firs time.
Lepeska has a history of criminal activity and mental instability. He has served time in a Wisconsin prison for stabbing a sleeping man at a university student union coffee house. In 1995, he told police he was 'a slave to an evil that he could not escape.'
He also claims to have had a five year infatuation with former Spice Girl Mel B.
The next court hearing is presently scheduled for May 2.
