A Florida judge has extended the emergency stay preventing Michael Schiavo from removing the feeding tube from his wife Terri until at least Friday. The judge will then determine if Michael Schiavo is fit to be his wife's guardian. Judge Greer had previously granted an emergency stay until 5:00 PM today.
It is possible that Judge George Greer could ask that Terri Schiavo undergo more tests to determine whether she has any chance of improving her condition. Mrs. Schiavo has been in a persistent vegetative state for 15 years now and doctors give her no chance of improving. According to her husband, although she left no written instructions, Terri Schiavo told Michael she did not want to be kept alive artificially in circumstances such as these.
Terri Schiavo's parents have been fighting to keep their daughter hooked up to the feeding tube. They claim she sometimes recognizes them and that her condition may improve with proper treatment. They are trying to become Terri's guardian instead of Michael.
The court will convene again on Friday which is the next day a decision of some kind is expected.
