Comedian Chris Rock said he was not upset by a decision made by ABC to broadcast the Academy Awards on a five-second delay on February 27. The 40-year-old Rock, who is known for using curses in his comedy routines, said he does not anticipate a problem with the upcoming awards ceremony.
The comedian said he viewed the delay as a 'safety net' and was not concerned about it. He compared live television to performing on a flying trapeze and said, 'you welcome the net.'
'I've been on TV and been funny not cursing,' Rock told '60 Minutes.' 'As far as content is concerned, I will talk about the movies. I'm not really worried about it. I'm sure ABC might be more worried about it than me.'
The producers of the Oscars are standing behind Rock despite recent comments he made about the lack of a young straight male audience. In fact, by choosing Rock to host the show, the Academy Awards is hoping they can attract the audience Rock says never watches the show.
The move by ABC was also made just after Congress recommended increasing the fines for 'indecency' in television and radio broadcasts.
