“Super Size Me” won the Writers Guild of America award for documentary screenplay. The prize, which incidentally was the guild’s first in that category, recognized the work of writer Morgan Spurlock. Spurlock’s film, which he starred in himself, detailed a month-long experiment eating McDonald’s food three times a day. The writer became ill after the experiment was over.
Asked whether he was surprised his film contributed to McDonald’s Restaurants scaling back on super-size food items Mr. Spurlock had this to say: “It’s a testament to the power of film making. Documentaries are more important now than ever.”
