Michael Jackson was released from a Santa Maria, California hospital late Wednesday after a brief two day stay resulting from flu-like symptoms. Jackson's illness further delayed the jury selection in his child molestation trial which has now been adjourned until next Tuesday. Last week, jury selection was delayed by the death in the family of Jackson's lead defense counsel.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said 'The King of Pop' was admitted for flu-like symptoms including vomiting. The 46-year-old was given intravenous fluids as part of his treatment. The condition was caused by 'a virile infection' and Jackson is expected to recover shortly.
Jackson had been admonished by Judge Rodney S. Melville not to be late for court after making a tardy appearance last week.
Jackson is accused of sexually molesting a 13-year-old boy after serving him alcohol at his Neverland Ranch. Jackson also allegedly showed adult pornography to the boy and shared a bed with him. Jackson denies all of the charges. If convicted, Jackson faces up to 20 years in prison.
This is the second time Jackson has been accused of molesting a young boy. A 1993 case was dropped after the alleged victim received a large settlement to drop the charges. The amount was rumored to be $20 million.
