It’s red carpet season with too many award shows cramped into such a small window of time. Instead of being able to savor each one, they all seem to melt into one big blur. Even the winners are the same as the Globes a few weeks back and now the Oscars will be a no brainer. I think I need another Hollywood breakup or make up to put a skip in my step.
(Speaking of pseudo makeups, I did see on the cover of two magazines last week that Jen and Brad may be back. The latest dish is that they had dinner together last week but says a mutual friend, 'Nothing's changed about their separation.' However, both Aniston and Pit are house hunting for separate homes in Malibu).
As for last Saturday’s SAG awards, Hilary Swank racked up a Best Actress for her performance as a female boxer in the Clint Eastwood-directed film and Morgan Freeman picked up the Best Supporting Actor, moving them into favorite status for the upcoming Academy Awards. Jamie Foxx continued his dominating award-show run, scoring SAG's Best Actor for his role as the late Ray Charles.
Cate Blanchett won Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator. And, in an upset of sorts, the cast of Sideways took home the prize for Best Ensemble, beating out the casts of Million Dollar Baby and The Aviator.
The SAGs marked the first head-to-head competition of the awards season between Swank and Annette Bening. Last month, both actresses nabbed Golden Globes. Swank and Bening are considered the front-runners for the Best Actress Oscar--a rematch of their race five years ago when Swank's performance in Boys Don't Cry won over Bening's American Beauty turn. Since actors comprise the largest voting bloc for the Oscars, Swank seems to have the edge.
