Norm Chow, the man who crafted the explosive offense at the University of Southern California is heading to the pros. Today, he was announced as the new offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans.
Since Chow became their offensive coordinator in 2001, the USC Trojans won back-to-back BCS championships and produced two Heisman Trophy winners, Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.
Chow will reportedly earn close to $1 million per year with the Titans plus incentives.
'This is an important addition to our team,' Titans head coach Jeff Fisher told reporters. 'He is one of the most respected offensive minds in the college game and has been for decades. In studying him and his offense, I am certain that his philosophy is consistent with ours and his experience will allow us the opportunity to improve.'
Chow was excited with the new opportunity. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he said, 'I'm fired up -- it's an exciting opportunity to get into the highest level of football,' Chow told the newspaper. 'But my family is very, very sad to leave USC because it's been such a great run. [The Titans are] taking a chance on a college guy, and I'm grateful for that,' Chow added.
Chow has no NFL coaching experience but has been in the college ranks for the past 32 years at BYU, NC State and Southern California.
Among the quarterbacks he coached in addition to Palmer and Leinart are Steve Young, Ty Detmer and Jim McMahon.
