Hotel heiress Paris Hilton will not be facing petty theft charges for an incident last year in which she allegedly swiped a copy of her sex tape without paying for it at a local newsstand.
The district attorney's office indicated that the case was being dropped due to lack of evidence. 'The evidence presented is not of such convincing force that a reasonable and objective jury would unanimously agree that the suspect is guilty,' said Irene Wakabayashi, on behalf of the DA's office.
The lack of evidence is being cited despite the existence of a security video which was aired on the television show 'Celebrity Justice' which appears to show Hilton walking away with the tape without paying for it.
Hilton was reportedly embarrassed that the tape was ever made public. Apparently, it was made for private use. Those selling the video had titled it 'One Night in Paris.'
So it seems the star of the reality show 'The Simple Life' will not be facing criminal charges despite the fact that her court testimony would have made for very interesting reality TV. Hilton is scheduled to host NBC's "Saturday Night Live" this weekend in New York.
