A roadside bomb killed one American soldier and wounded two others on Wednesday in a mountainous region of Afghanistan.
The attack took place in Kunar province near the regional capital Asadabad according to Sergeant Major Larry Lane, a military spokesman.
Provincial Governor Assadullah Wafa immediately blamed 'enemies of Afghanistan' which usually refers to Taliban guerillas. The region where the incident took place, Kunar province, is believed to be a hideout for numerous terrorists and pro-Taliban forces.
Another American soldier was killed in Kandahar in the southern part of the country. Enemy fire was not believed to be involved. The soldier was killed when his armored vehicle rolled over. Four Americans were injured in the incident. The cause of the accident was not immediately known although an investigation is underway to determine why the vehicle flipped.
The names of the dead have not been released pending the notification of their families.
A total of 208 American troops have been killed in Afghanistan since operations began there in late 2001.
