New York, December 14, 2005 – Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes did show up at the Tribeca Rooftop on Wednesday for a fundraiser for the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, as Page Six reported. Also at the bash were Usher, Donna Karan, and Paula Wagner, Cruise’s producing partner. None of them said much to reporters, who had gathered at the party venue, hoping in vain for interviews with Cruise.
One guest who went pretty much unrecognized was City Council member Margarita Lopez, who, The New York Post reported last summer, had used her influence to steer city funds to this very detoxification program, and then accepted campaign contributions from the Church of Scientology. We asked Lopez for a statement on her way out of the bash, but she declined to comment.
Cruise was one of the co-founders of the detoxification program, which claims to heal 9/11 rescue workers using methods including sauna bathing.
