Teemu Selanne decided the memories of his glory days with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim were too good to ignore. The 'Finnish Flash' returned to Anaheim by signing a one-year, $1 million deal with the Ducks on Tuesday.
'I'm very excited to be back in Anaheim,' Selanne said during a conference call from his home in Helsinki.
Selanne is the second all-time leading scorer in the history of the Mighty Ducks with 482 points in five seasons. In his glory days, he teamed with Paul Kariya to form one of the most dominating duos in the NHL but he left Anaheim after the 2000-2001 season.
In recent years, injuries have slowed Selanne but he had knee surgery this past September to repair damage in the knee.
'The last couple of years have been really tough, when every time you step on the ice, your knee is hurting,' Selanne said. 'My knee is as good as when I started in the NHL,' the 35-year-old star insisted.
In 2003-2004, Selanne had a disappointing year with the Colorado Avalanche, scoring 16 goals and adding 16 assists in 78 games.
The Ducks hope he can recapture some of his past glory. When healthy, Selanne was one of the most dangerous snipers in the NHL.
