A minor earthquake measuring approximately 4.4 on the Richter scale hit Rome and nearby towns on Monday, rattling some buildings and causing some panic in the area.
According to Italy's National Geographic Institute, the epicenter of the quake was located under the water off the coast of Anzio. The ground shook for approximately five seconds.
'It felt very strong, my legs are still shaking,' one local resident told Reuters. 'We ran outside when it started so we still don't know the effects.'
The main quake took place at approximately 2:00 PM local time. There have been no reports of fatalities or major injuries at this time. After shocks are expected to continue in the region tonight and perhaps for the next few days.
