Nintendo has announced a delay in the release of its most anticipated new game, 'Zelda: Twilight Princess' until some time in 2006. No specific date has been announced but the release will take place after the end of the company's fiscal year which is March 31. The game was originally supposed to be released this fall to take advantage of the Christmas shopping rush.
According to Nintendo, the delay came at the request of the development team which requested the additional time to add new levels to the game and to improve the overall performance of the product.
'After much discussion, the 'Zelda' development team has requested extra time to add new levels, more depth and even higher quality to 'Zelda: Twilight Princess,' ' Nintendo's Vice President of Affairs Perrin Kaplan said in a statement. 'While this may come as a disappointment to many eager fans, it will absolutely enrich the game and make it a multi-million seller.'
'Zelda' has been one of Nintendo's best selling franchises since its release in 1986 and this particular new game has been much anticipated by industry insiders. The last version of Zelda won the E3 Critics Awards, one of the industry's most coveted honors in the categories of best console game and best action/adventure game.
