American Idol to be Subject of ABC Expose

As American Idol fans prepare to watch this year's top six compete tonight, rumors continue to circulate about the content of an ABC News Primetime Live special scheduled to air on May 5. The network issued a press release yesterday indicating the special 'will explore explosive claims about behind-the-scenes activities at American Idol, the hit television show that became a cultural phenomenon.' The title of this expose is 'Fallen Idol.'

So far, ABC execs have been close-mouthed about what these claims may be, and a representative for Fox has stated that no one from ABC News has contacted them.

In the past week, former contestant Corey Clark, has surfaced and is trying to sell a manuscript of a tell-all book that he has written about his experiences on the show. In an interview with the grocery store tabloid Globe, Clark claims that he and judge Paula Abdul had a sexual relationship and that she promised to front his musical career as long as he kept his mouth shut about their affair. He also says that she bought and paid for his cell phone.

Clark was a contestant on American Idol 2 in 2003, but was disqualified after the 'Smoking Gun' website printed his mug shot and a story about his arrest after a disturbance at his home in October 2002. Clark was disqualified from the show on the grounds that he did not reveal this information to producers. He was later cleared of all charges.

Along with peddling his book proposal, Clark is also preparing to release his first album this spring. Considering the amount of free publicity this is generating, it is not surprising that Idol judge Randy Jackson brushed off Clark's allegations when asked about this by a reporter for Access Hollywood.

This season's show has already been riddled by controversy. In March, fan favorite Mario Vazquez quit the show after having made the finals. A few weeks later, the 'Smoking Gun' revealed a past arrest of finalist Scott Savol. Savol was allowed to remain on the show since he had informed producers of this arrest.
