The woman who claimed she bit down on a piece of a human finger in her Wendy's chili last month has been arrested. The reason for her arrest was not disclosed but police removed Anna Ayala Thursday night from her home in Las Vegas.
A news conference would be held on Friday in San Jose, California, the location where Ayala claims she bit into a 1 1/2 inch piece of a human fingertip. The fact that the news conference is scheduled for San Jose means that Ayala's arrest is likely related to the chili case.
The alleged incident took place on March 22 when Ayala claimed she found a fingertip complete with manicured fingernail in her chili. Although local officials and the media initially were sympathetic to the claim, their reaction changed to suspicion when no worker at the Wendy's store where the chili was purchased had any accident or injury to their fingers.
Ayala initially filed a claim against the fast food chain over the finger incident but after her home was searched and she was continually questioned by police, she decided not to file a lawsuit.
'Lies, lies, lies, that's all I am hearing,' Ayala said after police started questioning her. 'They should look at Wendy's. What are they hiding? Why are we being victimized again and again?'
Wendy's launched their own internal investigation into the incident and indicated they found no link between the alleged finger and the restaurant chain. It is possible their investigation led to Ms. Ayala's arrest.
They also discovered that Ayala has been a plaintiff in law suits before. She sued her former employer, General Motors, among others and told reporters she received $30,000 after her daughter got sick at an El Pollo Loco restaurant in Las Vegas. El Pollo Loco officials deny that Ayala received any money from them.
Regardless, the case of the finger in the chili has taken another bizarre turn. It now appears the finger of blame is pointed in the other direction.
