The Wedding Singer Meets Broadway

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s movie masterpiece, celebrating the thrill of the 1980s, “The Wedding Singer” has been transformed into a Broadway musical. It is due to open in New York in April 2006.

The movie focuses on a young man named Robbie Hart (Sandler), a wedding singer, who after being left at the altar falls for a pretty waitress, named Julia (Barrymore). Julia is engaged to a man she’s not sure wants to marry her (and vice versa). Casting has yet to take place for the movie-turned-stage production.

The musical is based on a book by Tim Herlihy and Chad Beguelin and will feature music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Beguelin. The world premiere of “The Wedding Singer” will take place at Seattle’s The 5th Avenue Theatre, January 31- February 19th of next year. Preview performances in New York City will take place in March 2006 at an undisclosed theatre location.
