Volcano in Indonesia Forces Thousands to Evacuate

Mount Talang located on Indonesia's Sumatra Island continues to rumble and warnings of more earthquakes, eruptions and possible tsunamis plague this island still devastated by the effects of the tsunami of last December 26. 25,000 villagers were evacuated from their homes on Sumatra Island although scientists believe there are signs that 9,186 foot high volcano is starting to calm down.

Tuesday, the volcano spewed ash high into the air, as high as 1,600 feet. On Monday, local scientists say the ash was sent twice as high.

'The volcano has not yet spewed lava from the crater, but in order to anticipate such an incident, we have evacuated those living around the mountain to safer areas,' district chief Djamawan Fauzi told the Associated Press.

In an attempt to reduce the panic felt on the island, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has scheduled a visit to the region.

Still, villagers wait and worry as yet another natural disaster effects their lives.
