The stepfather of the alleged victim in the Michael Jackson child molestation case testified today that a Jackson associate offered the family to pay for the boy's college education and buy the family a house in exchange for their participation in a video to rebut damaging accusations aired on the TV special, 'Living With Michael Jackson.'
The documentary was aired February 6, 2003. In it, Jackson admitted that young children slept in his bed but dismissed any concerns about the behavior, claiming it was innocent.
The family later made a rebuttal video on February 19 and 20, 2003 in which they singled out the pop singer for praise.
The stepfather indicated he had a conversation with Jackson employee Frank Tyson at that time asking what the family would get for making the rebuttal video. 'I said,`What are you offering this family to do this?'' the stepfather testified. He quoted Tyson as replying, 'We're offering protection.'
The stepfather said Tyson would say who he was protecting the family from. Tyson later offered to pay for the boy's college education and buy him a house. When the stepfather asked about money, he testified that Tyson answered, 'Are you trying to blackmail us?'
Later, the stepfather testified as to the boy's changed behavior after he spent the night in Jackson's bed at Neverland.
'It appeared to me he'd been brainwashed by someone,' the step father started, drawing a defense objection. Judge Rodney S. Melville sustained the objection and told the jury to disregard the remark.
When the prosecution asked him to describe the changes in the boy, the stepfather said, 'He'd become mean. He was using curse words. He had never done that before.' He also added, 'He was acting very cocky, kind of rude, actually. I don't think he wanted to see me. It was almost like, 'What are you doing here?''
The alleged victim's mother is expected to testify early next week.
