Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona was taken to a New York area hospital Wednesday morning after complaining of tightness in his chest. The 45-year-old skipper of the defending world champions will miss this afternoon's game against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein told the Associated Press, 'He was taken to the hospital for precautionary tests. He had all his faculties about him, he was just going for tests.'
Francona had complained he wasn't feeling well from the time he woke up this morning. He tried to complete his daily routine as normal but was unable to do so. He was taken to New York Weill-Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan where he has a relationship with some of the doctors.
Brad Mills, Boston's bench coach, will take over the managerial duties today.
The Red Sox have started the season 0-2, losing both of their games to the arch rival Yankees.
