The Staircase Premieres tonight on the Sundance Channel

‘The Staircase’ delves into the mystery surrounding the death of Kathleen Peterson, a Nortel executive who was married to novelist Michael Peterson. On the night of December 9, 2001, an agitated Michael Peterson called 911 and told the operator he had found his wife, unconscious but still breathing, at the bottom of the stairs. When they police arrived, they found Kathleen lying dead in a pool of blood and began treating the home as a crime scene. One week later, Michael Peterson was charged with first degree murder.

The eight part docu-series, shows the ups and downs of a murder case. The director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, gets up close and personal with the family of and the man being charged with murder, as well as showing the prosecution side of the case. The film is one of the most unbiased documentaries this year. With a total running time of over 6 hours you would expect that to hurt its potential viewers, well it certainly would not get a theatrical release for its running time alone, but every Monday in April you can watch two episodes at a time on the Sundance Channel. If you are a fan of crime shows such as CSI, this documentary is for you!

Tune in starting at 9PM tonight on the Sundance Channel.
