Perhaps it was inevitable after more than seven years of legal fights but the death of Terri Schiavo did not end the ongoing disputes between her husband Michael Schiavo and her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler.
The two parts of Terri's family cannot agree on funeral arrangements nor on how and where she should be buried according to published reports.
Michael Schiavo wants his wife cremated and her ashes buried in a Schiavo family plot near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her parents, however, want her to have a traditional Catholic burial and for her to be interred in Florida.
There will be separate funerals for Mrs. Schiavo, one in Pennsylvania held by Michael and his family and one in Florida accompanied by a traditional Catholic mass in deference to the Schindlers. The Schiavos are not disclosing the exact location of their funeral service for fear that the Schindlers or some of their supporters may turn the event into a media circus.
Michael Schiavo has asked for an autopsy to be conducted on Terri to determine the exact extent of her brain damage. Court appointed doctors say that she was in a persistent vegetative state since 1990 which the Schindlers dispute. They claim she was responsive to them and could have improved with proper therapy. It is hoped that the autopsy can provide some more answers to this issue.
While Terri Schiavo is gone, the bad blood and resentment left from years of bitter legal battles continues. Now, it is all the families have left.
