The band Barenaked Ladies are already famous for their irreverent humor in their songs and videos, now they will get to see if their wacky style carries over to prime-time television. The Hollywood Reporter states that the Canadian band is working on a variety series pilot for Fox. “The Barenaked Ladies Variety Show” will feature performances as well as skits and each episode will have a continuous story line.
The “Ladies”--Steven Page, Ed Robertson, Kevin Hearn, Jim Creeggan and Tyler Stewart—plan to harness the energy of their live shows into a television format. 'This is a natural expansion to their live experience,' executive producer John Ziffren told the Hollywood Reporter.
The group was predisposed to working with Fox because Fox boosted their carrer in the early days by having the Ladies appear on several of the networks' hit series, including episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210 and King of the Hill.
The multiplatinum Toronto-based band got its start in the late '80s but became famous after the release of their fifth album, 1998's “Stunt.” Their hits include “One Week,” “The Old Apartment” and “If I Had $1,000,000.” They were also the subject of the 2000 documentary “Barenaked in America” directed by fan and fellow Canadian Jason Priestley, which documented their first major U.S. tour.
