Melissa Etheridge is switching from rock singer to television star. Luckily it won’t be yet another reality show, Etheridge will star on an ABC sitcom that follows a similar set-up to TV's popular 'Will & Grace.' The project is being written by Linda Wallem, the creator of “That 70s Show” and will center on a gay woman (Etheridge, of course) who is a music teacher and lives with her best friend, a straight man. The two are raising the daughter of another friend. It centers on a gay woman (Etheridge), a music teacher who lives with her best friend, a straight man. Melissa Etheridge became famous in the late 1980s for her folk rock sound. She has had a string of hits including “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window” which both came from her 1993 album “Yes, I Am,” which marked her coming out as a gay woman. Etheridge recently married actress Tammy Lynn Michaels. The sitcom will be Etheridge’s first major acting role.
