British entrepreneur and adventurer Richard Branson, owner of the Virgin Group, announced Monday he has signed a deal with U.S. company Mojave Aerospace Ventures (MAV) to put paying travelers into space.
The licensing deal with MAV, which owns the technology , stretches over 15 years. Virgin is to build 5 spaceships to send about 3,000 people into space within the next 5 years.
Prices for each seat were expected to start at $200,000, with three days' flight training.
'We hope to create thousands of astronauts over the next few years and bring alive their dream of seeing the majestic beauty of our planet from above, the stars in all their glory and the amazing sensation of weightlessness,' Branson said.
