50 Cent is being sued by a European fan who claims he suffered injuries and was knocked unconscious when the rapper hurled a microphone into a jeering audience.
Tom Wilshire, 18, was standing near the stage at the UK’s Reading Festival last month when the G-Unit recording star was pelted with plastic bottles by unimpressed rock fans.
Obviously disturbed, 50 threw his microphone into the crowd, hitting Wilshire in the face. He was knocked unconscious and suffered a black eye and split nose.
“My legs went from under me and I was out for about 10 seconds,” he said. “I think a straightforward apology, man to man, would be fair in the circumstances.”
Police are investigating the fan’s complaint of assault and the teenager has launched a civil compensation claim. 50 could face a criminal trial in Britain if police decide to prosecute.
Louise Hart, Wilshire’s legal counsel from the Withy King firm, is preparing a civil claim on her client’s behalf.
'It is very early for this claim and we are still investigating it,” Hart said. 'But I think it has merit because it was a negligent act to throw the microphone when it was foreseeable it would cause injury to the crowd.'
The plaintiff, seemingly star-struck by all of his newfound attention, is already looking forward to the case proceedings.
'I'm not thinking about how much I could get in case nothing comes of it,' Wilshire said. 'I hope it wouldn't go to court, I would hope for a settlement, but me and my friends have been joking about him having to come to court in Chippenham.'
