HOLLYWOOD (September 20, 2004) – Actor Rikki Lee Travolta, actresses Sophia Loren and Fran Drescher, and author Dr. Joyce Brothers celebrate birthdays on Monday, September 20th.
Actor Travolta, who turns 29, is currently in the headlines as one of the “Bond Five” – a short list of five actors the media has identified as being considered to replace Pierce Brosnan as the sixth official James Bond for Eon Productions and recent Sony acquisition MGM.
Travolta is credited with reviving the “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding” stage franchise as its first celebrity guest star, making it the longest running environmental theater comedy in history.
The classically trained star of “Camelot: Excalibur” and “Twilight Serenade,” Travolta’s early work includes stints with Oscar winning director Ron Howard and Tony winning actress Liza Minnelli.
In 2003 he became the first member of the Travolta family to appear as Danny Zuko in “Grease” since John Travolta’s appearance in the 1978 film.
Travolta’s Top Ten Amazon.com recommended novel “My Fractured Life” is slated for film production by Port Magee Pictures.
Sean Connery, who originated the James Bond role, made his first film appearance in the role at age 30.
The “Bond Five” as identified by United States, United Kingdom, and Australian press and wire services consists of Travolta, Clive Owen, Hugh Jackman, Eric Bana, and Adrian Paul.
The film adaptation of “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding” premiered this year at Robert DeNiro’s TriBeca Film Festival.
Loren, who turns 70, is the recipient of two Oscar awards – the first for the 1961 film 'La Ciociara' (Two Women); the second coming in 1990 as a life time achievement honor.
In 1991 she was named one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People. In 1995 she was chosen one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in history by Empire magazine.
In 1982 she served 18 days in prison for tax evasion in Italy.
Drescher, who turns 47, achieved fame as the title character in the television series “The Nanny.”
She is a former high school classmate of Ray Romano and achieved her first film break with Rikki Lee Travolta's kinsman John Travolta in the 1977 film “Saturday Night Fever.”
Brothers, who was born in 1928, first gained national attention as a quiz show celebrity in the 1950s winning the “$64,000 Question.”
She appeared as co-host of NBC’s “Sports Showcase” and in syndicated programming as a psychologist. She currently writes syndicated newspaper and magazine columns.
