Just this weekend, I was telling a friend about the new “Dukes of Hazzard” movie which will feature Seann William Scott in the John Schneider rule of Bo and Johnny Knoxville as Luke, a role originated by Tom Wopat. My friend immediately asked who was going to play Daisy but I didn’t have an answer. We all do now. In a moment of genius casting, Jessica Simpson has been cast as Daisy. Variety reports that the decision came after months of talks.
The show ran on CBS from 1979 to 1985 and centered on two southern cousins, Bo and Luke, driving their Confederate flag-topped muscle car around the dusty roads of fictional Hazzard County. Jay Chandrasekhar, who has directed such groaners as “Club Dread” and “Super Troopers will be helming the movie.
This will be Simpson’s first attempt at acting in a movie (she played herself “Master of Disguise” ins 2002). The role, made famous by Catherine Bach, will have Simpson donning the denim shorts so small and tight that they became forever known as daisy dukes. In addition to starring on “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” Simpson has also appeared on “That 70s Show” and made many other TV appearances hosting shows and singing. Sources say Simpson beat out pop star rivals Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera for the role.
