The Class of 2005 Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame inductees list has been announced, and the Sex Pistols have been pulled from the principal's office to the head of the class.
The punk pioneers, who could barely find concert halls to allow them to play their first tour in 1977, will get a second chance to stand alongside fellow punks Patti Smith, The Clash, and The Ramones, who were voted in at last years ceremonies.
Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five are among this years nominees -- having the honor of being the first rap artists to get on the induction ballot.
On the Country scene the 'First Lady of Rockabilly' Wanda Jackson, who is still touring after nearly a half century, made the list along with the late great Conway Twitty.
The MTV age rock also gets proper recognition with U2 and the Pretenders joining the list.
Other nominees include the blues guitarist Buddy Guy, soul legend Percy Sledge, Iggy Pop's former band the Stooges, the late Gram Parsons, the J. Geils Band, and Lynard Skynard.
A committee nominates artists -- who become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first recording -- who are then voted on by an international body of about 700 music experts. The results will be announced in December, with the induction ceremonies to take place in New York City in spring 2005.
