The producer of JOHN WATERS' new comedy has slammed American censors at France's DEAUVILLE FESTIVAL OF AMERICAN CINEMA for giving the raunchy film a commercially unfriendly NC-17 rating.
CHRISTINE VACHON has accused the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) of 'consigning movies to oblivion' by certifying them as NC-17, which means no one 17 and under is allowed to see
them.
And she claims Waters' comedy A DIRTY SHAME, which focuses on a town of sex addicts, doesn't deserve the NC-17 tag.
Vachon says, 'I think that even just two years ago, the MPAA would have given Dirty Shame an R. I think the pressure has to do with the current administration.
'(There is) this encroaching feeling constantly of the notion of family values.'
