Gerald McRaney Has Cancer Surgery

TV actor Gerald McRaney underwent cancer surgery in Texas on Monday for a growth on his lung. The actor, who starred in 'Simon & Simon' and 'Major Dad,' is expected to recover fully and return to work this month. The growth was found when McRaney, 57, had a chest X-ray in preparation for general anesthesia for a knee operation. His doctors in Los Angeles advised him to have the tumor removed by the specialists at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

The actor is recovering well. Doctors are hopeful that because the tumor has been caught while it was still small that no follow-up treatments will be necessary.

McRaney's most recent project is a show for the WB network called “Commando Nanny.” The sitcom stars McRaney as a father who hires an ex-military man to watch his children. The show is loosely based on the experiences of Mark Burnett, the “Survivor” creator who worked as a nanny when he first came to Los Angeles. The show was set to premiere in September but will now be debuting later in the fall season.
