First she said her band played the wrong song, sending her shuffling off the stage during a live gig. And now she shamefully admits that it was severe acid reflux that ruined the show.
Jessica Simpson's kid sister went on the tube yesterday to explain away the SNL lip sync faux pas to anyone who would stick a mic in front of her. With all the humility that she could muster up, little Ashlee Simpson confessed to the world that she suffered from a severe case of acid reflux.
Ashlee Simpson, severe acid reflux sufferer.
She said the real reason why she walked off the SNL stage during her live gig Saturday night was that acid reflux had eroded away her voice.
Saturday night Ashlee was on the NBC late-night comedy show Saturday Night Live to perform two songs off her hit album, but something went a little weird. During her second song of the night her band started playing 'Autobiography,' and then a pre-recorded vocal track of Ashlee singing 'Pieces of Me' began playing over them. Simpson suddenly stopped her little intro dance, looking stymied for a moment, and then did a hoe-down ditty before shuffling off the stage.
At the end of the show the little popstar appeared on stage, joined by the night's host Jude Law, to apologize to the audience and sell out her band, blaming them for playing the wrong song.
Even her record label joined the lynch mob, formally explaining that the band was suppose to play a pre-recorded percussion track, not Ashlee's pre-recorded voice track. Oops!
Just a couple days later the blame has shifted to a bit of tummy trouble. Ashlee went on TV to explain that her problem with severe acid reflux eroded away her voice, forcing her to use a backup singing track.
'The rehearsals went awesome!' Ashlee said. But the percolating acids in her tummy bubbled into her throat, and by showtime, Ashlee says, her voice was gone.
Oddly enough, the little nepotic was able to appear in several skits throughout the live broadcast, all with no apparent loss of voice. Then, miraculously on Monday night, just two days later, she sang 'live' on NBCs Radio Music Awards.
Maybe if things don't work for little Ashlee on the lip sync circuit, she could grab a gig with Nexium.
