Do we need a remake of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' The Bob Geldof song which is still played each year at Christmas is set to be remade with new artists. In 1984 Geldof and Ultravox singer Midge Ure started Band Aid, an organization of musicians and other artists. The single raised millions for famine relief in Ethiopia and Geldof and Ure want to do it again. Who will be part of the new project? The list thus far includes Coldplay, and potentially Robbie Williams, Noel Gallagher and The Darkness.
'It's definitely going to happen,' Ure told The Sun. 'I'm very excited. This project is not just about raising money -- it's about putting the focus back on Africa and the problem of famine which has not gone away.'
No word yet on how many of the original artists will sign up for the new version. More plans are expected to be announced tomorrow. The song has been re-recorded several times before but this latest version has a lot of buzz behind it and British bookmakers are already predicting that it will be a chart-topper.
New troubles in the Sudan and the increasing awareness of the AIDS epidemic in Africa have begun to shift the world's attention back to the troubled continent.
