Dell unveiled its latest consumer electronics product, the Pocket DJ 5, on Thursday. The Pocket DJ 5 is a mini version of Dell's Digital Jukebox designed to compete with Apple's iPod.
Dell already sells 20 GB (DJ 20) and 15 GB (DJ 15) models of its DJ music player, but is expected to release a 5 GB version (Pocket DJ 5) for the Christmas shopping period. The iPod mini can store 4 GB of information and costs around $249, whereas the Pocket DJ 5 will have 1 GB more storage and should sell around $199.
Dell's introduction of these devices started last year, and the move is seen as a push by the company to enter the home digital electronics market. Dell's aim is to supplement its well-established server and home PC business with a new market consisting of products geared towards entertainment in the home.
Music for your Dell DJ is available through Dell's MusicMatch Jukebox software, which is also a very good music player program for your computer.
