New York, October 6 --- Actress Minnie Driver, best known for her work in films like Good Will Hunting and Circle of Frinds, gave an in-store performance at J&R Music today to promote her first music album, Everything I’ve Got in My Pocket. The British actress, who announced she was still battling a cold, performed four songs from the CD, including a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Hungry Heart”.
Despite her initial nerves (which she mentioned several times), Driver appeared to be comfortable in her new role, even accompanying herself on guitar on some songs (she was also backed up a guitarist, keyboardist and cellist). Tunes like “Invisible Girl” and the title cut of the CD have the sort of ethereal-folk feel of Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell, while Driver’s voice, wavering occasionally, still sounded confident and cool. For those who think this is another case of a young actor attempting to be a rock star, it should be noted that Driver had initially planned to pursue music, and was part of a group before her acting career took off.
Wearing a black lacy shirt and maroon jeans, Driver signed copies of the CD for the crowd, and announced she’ll be doing a show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom next month.
