Rape charges against 'Barbershop' actor Anthony Anderson were dismissed on Wednesday. The Memphis, Tennessee judge hearing the case said that the accuser's testimony was bizarre and did not produce probable cause to bring a case to trial. Charges against co-defendant Wayne Witherspoon were also dismissed. The woman, who was looking for a job as a movie extra, said she was attacked in Anderson's trailer on the set of the movie 'Hustle and Flow.' The woman also told the judge that she had sex with both Anderson and Witherspoon over a period of several days before the reported attacks.
A spokesman for Anthony Anderson issued the following statement regarding a the judge's decision to dismiss the charges filed in July. 'Anthony Anderson knew all along that when the truth came out, justice would be done and he would be completely exonerated of these false charges.
He is, of course, both relieved and delighted by the judge's decision to throw out what was so obviously a trumped-up case. That said, this has been a terrible ordeal for him and his family, and he is eager to put it behind him and move on with his life and career.'
Anderson still faces a civil lawsuit filed against him in Los Angeles which claims that he committed sexual assault on the set of his briefly-aired sitcom 'All About the Andersons.' Anderson has released a statement saying that the lawsuit is an attempt to take advantage of his 'perceived vulnerability' because of the charges filed in Memphis. Perhaps this lawsuit will also now disappear.
