SpaceShipOne made history Monday and triumphed in the international Ansari X Prize race to launch the first privately built spacecraft. Burt Rutan, who built the spacecraft, won the prize of $10 million.
SpaceShipOne completed its second trip of 62 miles above the Earth's surface with a polit ond weight equivalent to two passengers. Today's flight surpassed all previous records by going 70 miles above tghe Earth's surface.
British entrepreneur Richard Branson has recently announced he is licensing SpaceShipOne's technology to fly space tourists to suborbital space as soon as 2007. Branson plans to fly passengers into space for approximately $200,000 per ticket, using technology based on SpaceShipOne.
