Actress Janet Leigh who was most famous for the shower stabbing scene in “Psycho” died at home on Sunday at the age of 77, Reuters reports. Leigh suffered from vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels. Leigh died peacefully in Beverly Hills with her husband and daughters Jamie Lee and Kelly Curtis by her side.
Leigh's film career consisted of far more than that one infamous moment. She began in 1947 and appeared opposite screen legends Gary Cooper, Errol Flynn, Frank Sinatra and ex-husband Tony Curtis among others. She also starred in “The Manchurian Candidate” in 1962 and Orson Welles’s “Touch of Evil” in 1968. The pretty blonde actress was often cast as the love interest or the damsel in distress but her most famous role was as a thief on the run in 1960’s “Psycho.” Leigh received top billing for the film and so audiences were shocked that she died 45 minutes in. The scene is one of the most famous in cinema history. Leigh was nominated for a best supporting actress Oscar for the role.
