For Brett Favre it was just another day at the office. In celebration of his record 200th straight start at quarterback, Favre threw three touchdown passes to help lead the Packers to a 45-17 win over the St. Louis Rams. It was the Packers sixth straight win and put them atop the NFC North Division at 7-4, tied with the Minnesota Vikings.
Favre had plenty of help from running back Najeh Davenport, making his first NFL start in place of the injured Ahman Green. Davenport rushed for a career high 178 yards on 19 attempts including a 40 yard touchdown run that sealed the win for Green Bay.
The Green Bay defense also scored two touchdowns in the game. The first came on a 40 yard fumble recovery by rookie Ahmad Carroll that gave the Packers an early 7-0 lead while backup cornerback Michael Hawthorne ended the night's scoring by returning another fumble and returning it 34 yards for a score.
The three touchdown passes gave Favre 21 for the year which set an NFL record for most consecutive seasons with 20 or more touchdown passes. Favre was previously tied with Dan Marino with 10 straight but now holds the record all by himself. He also extended his consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass streak to 36 straight games, second behind Hall of Famer John Unitas's all-time mark of 47.
Favre's first NFL start was on September 27, 1992. Since then, the Rams had 13 differnt quarterbacks start a game for them while the Chicago Bears have had a league-high 18. No other team has had less than seven different quarterbacks start for them since that time.
The loss dropped the Rams to 5-6 on the year, one game behind division leading Seattle in the NFC West.
The Packers travel to Philadelphia next week to take on the 10-1 Eagles while the Rams host the 1-10 49ers in St. Louis.
