In recent years, violence in public schools has become a hot issue. Since the shooting attacks at Columbine High School in suburban Denver in the late 90s, security has been increased in many public schools with metal detectors being installed and policemen often present on campus.
No motive for the attacks has been given. The police have not released the names of the victims or the assailent because of their ages.
